Introducing Raider!

We have a new member of our family, his name is Raider:) We got him the first week of February. We weren't looking for a dog, but I got an email at work that there was a family that had to get rid of their dog because their son was diagnosed with dander induced asthma. I emailed the lady and asked a ton of questions and he seemed like the perfect dog. We went and met him and then they "delivered" him to us the next day. He's awesome. Not sure what kind of dog he is exactly. They adopted him from the pound when he was 1. They were told he was "retriever/lab". He looks part golden retriever, possibly some lab, possibly some pit bull (in the face/jaws) and feels kinda wire-y like a terrier. He weighs 50 lbs. He turned 3 the first week of February so he's still young. The family had a 4 year old and a 6 year old so he is use to kids. He had 16 weeks of obedience training at Pets Mart so he's well behaved. He has a micro chip and is up to date on all his shots. He loves to play tug of war with his rubber ball. He growls like he's vicious, but you can pet him and flip his lips and stuff while he's growling because he's just playing. He is really gentle with Karsen. When Karsen plays tug of war Raider doesn't growl as loud or pull as hard, it's like he knows. Karsen can lay on him or chase him around trying to put a bead necklace on his neck and he tolerates it:) He likes to shake and Karsen thinks that's hysterical. Raider won't get on the furniture unless he's invited and knows he can never get on the new couch. If we are on the old couch he will come up and put his head on it, but won't get up unless we say it's ok. He has never even touched one of Karsen's toys, doesn't eat food that Karsen spills on the floor unless we tell him it's ok and doesn't jump on people. The only thing that he does that I'm not fond of is that he barks---loudly! He barks at the doorbell or if someone knocks and he barks at the neighbor dogs. I mean he's a dog so I expect him to bark, but dang it's loud. I'm not used to a big dog I guess. I wish he wouldn't bark at the door because I don't want him to wake up Karsen if he's napping. He also goes stupid when there is a duck or bird in our yard, he goes after them. He's not use to other animals. He is a big baby, we think he is part cat. He's so snuggly and gentle. We are glad we got him.
